7 Marks: Developing Others

Developing Others

When it comes to Marks of Discipleship, one of many things we see modeled through the life of Jesus is Developing Others. Spiritual development is reproducing faith and obedience to help others follow Jesus. In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul writes to Timothy, his protégé: “The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses, entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others.”
Developing Others is a unique Mark of Discipleship. It’s essentially taking this whole process of growth and imitating Jesus and using it as a tool to help someone ELSE grow in these areas. It’s multiplication; it’s development; it’s discipleship. So, growth in this area is partly to familiarize yourself with the 7 Marks of Discipleship as a whole. Study each of the marks, or spokes; study the way Jesus demonstrated them in Scripture, and identify someone in your life to develop and disciple.

Make disciples who make disciples, not because you’re perfect – but because you’re not. And together, “as we go,” we’ll continue to follow after the way – and the example – of Jesus.
