Always Have and Always Will

Begin with two minutes of stillness and silence before God.

Have you ever been in a season of life that felt lonely? A season of heartbreak that felt like it may never end? I have found myself here in more ways than one and can attest that they are some of the hardest days ever, but they are even more difficult if you do not keep the reminder close to your heart that Jesus never leaves, His love never ceases, and He is faithful through it all.

When I found myself a widow at 28 years old, there were so many evenings that I cried myself to sleep because of the heartache that I felt. It often felt so lonely because every new thing was met with such sadness. It was only through His divine Word and song that I stayed grounded in truth. A friend shared Psalm 31:14 with me on a difficult, grief-filled day that stayed with me each morning—I hid it in my heart so that I could always reflect on it even when I wasn’t sure if I believed it. It says, “But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, ‘You are my God.’” It goes on to say, “My times are in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies.” I read it over and over and begged God to meet me where I was. Heartbroken and lonely. And boy, did He!

With clarity, He spoke “I’ve got you. I’ll never leave you. I am your God, and I am faithful.” His truth and His presence in that season of my life are exactly why I can praise Him with confidence. As I would seek Him, He would show me purpose in my life day after day. He would show Himself to me through my son, through friends, and through music so often. I am living proof that He finishes what He starts, that He is faithful, that even in the darkest night the sun rises with the morning.

Even though I may have wanted to some days, I didn’t push God away. I didn’t understand His plan or the “why” behind it all, but I knew that whatever it was, He would be faithful in my healing and faithful in my future. He will be in yours too, whatever it is that you’re facing.

Take two minutes to reflect in silence.
Reflection:
  • Listen to “Always Have and Always Will” by Venture Worship on Spotify!
  • Who in your life will remind you of God’s faithfulness in the hard times? We need people like this on speed dial, who are always ready to remind us of His truth while also lending a shoulder to cry on.
  • The song “Always Have and Always Will” by Venture Worship is such a great reminder to us of God’s faithfulness. Take a moment to listen to this song today and let the words settle deep in your heart.
  • Finally, read through Lamentations 3:22-24. Read the verse. Write it down. Post this verse somewhere you will see every single day. Hide this truth in your heart so that you never doubt His faithfulness.
  • “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 22-24
  • Prayer: Father, thank You for giving me a hiding place to rest even when I am hurting— when I feel alone. Thank You for reminding me that I am not alone and that You are a good Father who doesn’t leave me. The giants ahead of me feel less scary with You by my side. Thank You for being the strength that I do not have alone. Thank You for Your Word and the Truth that Your mercies renew every single morning. Lord, it feels hard, and it feels uncomfortable and impossible some days, but I trust You. I know You keep your promises, I know You are faithful. You have always been… You will always be.
