The Spirit of Heaven

Author: Amy Stampley
Jul 7, 2023 | 1 Corinthians 2

Begin with 2 minutes of silence and stillness before God.

1 Corinthians 2 tells us that the gifts that God wants to give us are beyond comprehension…

"These are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who knows a person’s thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God." 1 Corinthians 2:10-11

Let’s take a moment to engage our senses. When you close your eyes and imagine Heaven, what things do you see? Do you visualize the streets of gold? Do you see paradise before you? What do you hear? Do you hear gentle music played upon harps or perhaps you hear melodious piano sounds? Do you hear the peaceful sounds of birds echoing in a harmonic symphony? What do you feel? Do you feel unexplainable peace? Rest? How does it smell? Is the smell like the perfect mixture of gardenia, magnolia, and jasmine? I believe that the goodness of Heaven is so much better than anything we have experienced on Earth, that there is nothing that can physically prepare us for such an experience! But what gifts do you enjoy while here on Earth? Do you ever find yourself praying for something only to realize months or years later that God worked that out better than you could ever fathom?

"But, as it is written, 'What no eye has seen, nor ear heard, nor the heart of man imagined, what God has prepared for those who love him.'" 1 Corinthians 2:9

Take 2 minutes to reflect in silence.
Reflection:
  • Sit in stillness and listen to the "Goodness of God" by Bethel Music. Reflect on all the ways that God’s goodness has shone upon your life. If you like to journal, write these things down so that you can revisit them on your hard days.
  • Prayer: Dear God, we know that the beauty of Heaven is more wonderful than anything that we could ever imagine. Your goodness in our individual lives overflows in so many ways. Help us to pay attention and not miss all the ways You love us so very well. Thank You for Your love and the many gifts we often take for granted. Amen.

Family Devo: 1 Corinthians 2

By: Amy Stampley

When partnering with your family to know, love, and follow Jesus, we strive to create and share content filtered by the Head-Heart-Hands model.

Head: the knowledge of God and His Word | Heart: the personal connection from scripture | Hands: a missional mindset

Head

Think about the most beautiful sight that you have ever seen.  Think about the sweetest smell you have ever smelled.  Think about the most wonderful sound you have ever heard.  When we put our trust in God, that gives us the promise of eternal life that we will live out in Heaven.  There are sights that we will see in Heaven that our normal eyes here on Earth cannot imagine.  The smells and sounds of Heaven are much greater than the things we experience here on Earth.

Heart

When you ask God to come into your heart and you confess that you believe in Him, God gives you the promise of eternal life.

Draw a picture or write a story about what you think Heaven will be like.  Ask your parents or others what they think Heaven will be like.  When you are finished with your drawing or writing, share it with someone.

Hands

Prayer: Dear God, the gifts that you give us are better than anything that we can imagine.  Help us to live our lives that are pleasing to you.  You are so good to us.  Thank you for all of the many blessings in our lives.  Amen.
