Trust God With The Unknown

Author: Blake Houston
Dec 7, 2023 | Revelation 6

Begin with 2 minutes of silence and stillness before God.

Alright y’all. Today’s reading takes us into the “thick” part of Revelation. No matter where you stand on the end times, we can glean truth for our lives today.

As the Lamb opens each seal, John’s vision reveals a cascade of events, each with its own deep symbolism and sobering impact. From the conquest of the white horse to the scales of the black horse, from the justice-seeking cry of the martyrs under the altar to the cosmic disturbances of the sixth seal, we are witnessing the unfolding of divine justice and the seriousness of God’s approach to human history.

Through these visions, which may seem overwhelming, we’re reminded that these are not just images to incite fear but to stir a profound respect for the sovereignty and holiness of God. It’s a call to remember that history moves according to His purpose and time, not ours.

Corrie ten Boom, a faithful witness of Christ’s love in the midst of the horrors of a concentration camp, once said, “Never be afraid to trust an unknown future to a known God.” When we read through chapters of Scripture such as Revelation 6, it can be easy to fall into fear and uncertainty.

But trust God! He holds the future, and we can be encouraged to know that He is the same God who holds the futures of our own uncertain paths.

The seals and events of Revelation 6 are not without purpose; they speak to a God who is intimately involved with the affairs of this world, a God who weeps with those who suffer, a God who will bring about ultimate justice, and a God who has sealed us with His promise of salvation.

Trust Him with your future today.

Take 2 minutes to reflect in silence.
Reflection:
  • How does the powerful imagery of the seals challenge us to consider our own readiness for the Lord’s return?
  • What comfort can we find in knowing that God is sovereign over the trials and tribulations of this world?
  • How can we live in a such a way that honors the Lord, knowing that our time here is part of a larger, divine narrative?
  • Prayer: Father, as Jesus opens each seal, help us to understand the gravity of Your plans and the depth of Your love for us. Give us the faith to trust You through the shaking of our worlds and the hope to hold fast to the promises You give to us. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Family Devo: Revelation 6

By: Amanda Carpenter

When partnering with your family to know, love, and follow Jesus, we strive to create and share content filtered by the Head-Heart-Hands model.

Head: the knowledge of God and His Word | Heart: the personal connection from scripture | Hands: a missional mindset

Head

In Revelation 6, John’s vision includes Jesus opening the seven seals. Each seal involves separating good and evil. We call this judgment. As we live on earth, God wants us to choose Him. It can be scary to read about the weapons and earthquakes in Revelation 6, but it is most important to know that if we love God and choose to serve Him, we do not have anything to fear. With the opening of the fifth seal, God shows us that it may not always be easy to stand up for Jesus. After opening the scroll, each person who was hurt for standing up for Jesus was given a white robe. God took care of them! Standing up for Jesus, even when it’s hard is WORTH IT. When you stand up for Jesus, not only do you get to spend eternity with the Lord, but you also show other people God’s love so they can join you in Heaven.

Heart

Sometimes standing up for Jesus can be hard. It may be hard to pray for somebody who’s been mean to you or to tell somebody that you make good choices because you love Jesus. When you stand up for Jesus and tell somebody about Him, you are inviting someone to join you in Heaven. Wouldn’t it be amazing to have your classmate standing beside you in Heaven?

Hands

Talk to somebody about some ways you can stand up for Jesus in your school. Tell that person about why that might be hard, but why it’s important.

Prayer: Lord, some of the words in Revelation are scary to read. Thank You for loving me and telling me that I do not have to fear. If I love You, You will take care of me. Help me tell other people about You so they don’t have anything to fear either. Amen.
