Head: Know God's Word | Heart: Love God | Hands: Follow God's Way
Read Luke 17-18
Head
In this passage of Scripture, there are many red letters, indicating that these are the words of Jesus. In these chapters, Jesus had much to say about children. How many of you have ever considered what Jesus thinks about children? As parents, we adore our own children, but sometimes our patience can be tested by their boundless energy and endless questions. However, Jesus viewed children in a vastly different way and even used them to impart a profound lesson on faith. In Luke 18:15, Jesus called the children to Him and said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them, for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it.” What does it mean that the kingdom of God belongs to such children? And how do we receive the kingdom of God as a little child?
Heart
This passage, along with others in the Bible, like Mark 10:13-16, shows us God’s heart for children. It also shows us how He wants us to approach Him. Children are full of wonder, adoration, and trust. They are not shy about showing their love. When my kids were younger, they didn’t think twice about jumping up and wrapping their arms around me for a big hug. They loved being close to me and would settle right into my lap. But as they grew older, things changed. The public hugs slowed down, and they became more self-reliant—just as we want them to be. However, the kingdom of God is different. Our Heavenly Father wants us to rely on Him. He wants us to live by faith, trusting that He will meet all our needs. Just as a child depends on their parents for everything, God desires our complete dependence on Him for all things.
Hand
Children who are loved and cherished trust their parents completely. God has the same desire for all of us—to trust Him. When our children ask us questions, they believe what we tell them without a doubt. Our Heavenly Father wants us to demonstrate this same kind of trust and faith in Him. He wants us to depend on Him and to hang on to His every word. He wants us to be unashamed of showing our love for Him, even in front of others. As adults, this can be a challenge, and it’s something we choose to do daily. It takes humility—not relying on ourselves but acknowledging that everything we have comes from Him. Even our ability to work and provide for our families is a gift from God. So, let’s learn to trust Him fully, just as a child trusts their parents.
Prayer: Dear God, thank You for loving us the way You love children. Help us to trust You with childlike faith, believing that You will always provide for our needs. Teach us to rely on You every day, just as a child depends on their parents. Thank You for Your love, Your care, and Your goodness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
