Read Mark 3-4

Head

Today, we are back in Mark, this time in chapters 3 and 4. Here, we get to read about how some people loved Jesus, others hated Him, and some people thought that He was out of His mind. Jesus continued to teach people about God and performed healing miracles despite what people thought of Him. Today, we are going to come back around to the word that we have seen for the past two days in our readings: faith. Read Mark 4:35-41. Here, Jesus and his disciples are traveling in a boat. A terrible storm came. The wind was so strong, and the waves were enormous. The boat was being overtaken by the waves! The disciples were terrified, but Jesus was napping in the back of the boat. The disciples woke Jesus up and said, “Teacher! Don’t you care that we are going to die?” Jesus got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Silence. Be still!” The wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then He said to the disciples, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” (Mark 4:38-40) Even though the disciples had been with Jesus and had witnessed Him performing miracles, they did not fully grasp the power of Jesus. They were so focused on the storm and not the One who could calm the storm. At that moment, they did not have faith. Jesus was with them the entire time, and they did not have anything to worry about. After this, the disciples were so amazed. They asked one another, “Who then is this? Even the wind and the sea obey Him!”

Heart

So, let’s answer that question. Who is Jesus? Jesus, the man who does only what God can do - because Jesus IS God! He had control over the sea and the wind in Mark 4, and He has control over the Earth today. The One who has control over the Earth loves YOU! Just like Jesus was at work in Mark 4 during the storm, we can have faith that He is always working for our good because of the love that He has for us. We can learn from the disciples that instead of having little faith and immediately becoming fearful in hard times, we can put our faith in Jesus and turn to Him.

Hands

The disciples cried out to Jesus and asked for His help. We can do that too! God wants us to turn to Him when we are scared, anxious, troubled, sad, or hurt. We can do this through prayer. Pray to God and ask Him to help you with your troubles.

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for being a place I can go to when I am scared or troubled. Help me to keep my faith strong and my focus on You, not my storms in life. Help me to remember that You are bigger and more powerful than any of my troubles! I love You, Amen.
