Read Psalms 16-17

Head

In Psalm 16, David declares that his trust is in the Lord. He gives us reasons he trusts in God. God is his protector. God is a provider who blesses us with good things like wisdom. David goes on to say that trusting in the Lord gives us joy. Why? Because our focus is on Him and not the circumstances that we face each day. Instead of focusing on hard times, we can focus on God’s goodness. David feels secure knowing that his trust in the Lord will not be destroyed. No one can take God’s presence from you. Psalm 17 is a prayer. A prayer to remind us that God’s righteousness will win over evil. That God will protect us and show us that we are not to fear evil. Evil is all around, but it can’t consume us if we trust in the Lord.

Heart

My life verse is Proverbs 3:5-6. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding, but in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight. “

David is declaring that same truth in these psalms. Our relationship with God must be based on trust! We can trust God to be all that He says and do all that He promises. When our eyes, hearts, and minds are fixed on God and seeking His will, we can’t focus on evil. Evil doesn’t want to be near Him. Evil wants to live in the shadows, preying on those whose trust isn’t in God. God is light, and He will drive out darkness.

Heart

How can we have hope and joy just like David in Psalm 16? Trust in the Lord. Give Him your life. Ask Him to help you choose good instead of evil. Ask Him to give you wisdom. Ask Him to help you become more like Him and less like the world. We want those who have never seen God before to see Him in us. When we place our trust in Him, our words and actions point back to who He is.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, Lord, I choose you to trust in today. Help me to focus on You and not the things of this world. You are the only thing that can provide true peace, hope, joy, and blessings. Living for you is so much better than living for myself. Help us not to grow weary, but instead, grow strong in our faith that You are with us always. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
