21 Days of Prayer

Key Verse:

“Some trust in chariots and some in horses,

but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.” Psalm 20:7

Prompt:

This week's focus: Grow in Grace

Powerful men and women leverage the things they control to bring about what they desire, but for those who love God, there is a different way. David was a man after God’s own heart. When we pursue God with abandon, like David, our desires reflect our Father’s heart, and we can trust His will for us. Today, ask God to give you a heart that is in relentless pursuit of Him. Thank Him for the grace to trust in His name even when doubts lurk in the shadows of your mind.

Read Psalms 20-21

Head

In Psalms 20, David is asking for help in hard times. He asks God to answer prayers, stating that he trusts in the Lord. Because we trust in the Lord, “we get up and stand firm” (Psalms 20:8 NIRV). The Lord is the same, always. We can trust that His ways are good. When we rely on Him, we have hope and confidence that He is going to take care of us.

David doesn’t stop there. After asking for help, David writes Psalms 21 where he thanks God for all the things He’s done. He lists the ways that God helps the king, giving him strength, life, victory in battles, and the list continues.

Heart

When I was a little girl, I used to pretend to call God on a real phone. Some nights, this is how I would pray. I loved talking to God like I would talk to my best friend. We can talk to God about our troubles, just like we talk to our friends. But don’t forget – when God answers your prayers, make sure to thank Him for all the things He’s done.

Hands

At the end of your day or whenever you need help with something, call God and ask him for help. I challenge you to pick up a phone and call God, just like you would call your best friend. Let’s practice now:

Prayer: Lord, today I’m struggling with__________________. Help me to trust You with this. Thank You for how You are always there for me. Amen.
