Head

“Zacchaeus was a wee little man and wee little man was he” is the lyrics to a song many of us learned in our youth, and the catchy tune immediately comes to mind when we read about Zacchaeus. Zacchaeus had some positive attributes amongst the negative ones he was known for. Zacchaeus was a seeker. He wanted to see this Jesus he had heard about. He was vertically challenged –short! He was in the middle of the crowds surrounding the streets to see this Jesus who performed miracles, and because of his height, he was unable to see Jesus, but he did not give up! He found a tree and climbed to reach a height that enabled him to catch a glimpse of the Savior. It was through this act that his whole life changed. A man that people hated because he took their hard-earned money was now a person that Jesus chose to visit. Zacchaeus and everyone in his household would never be the same after encountering Jesus.

Heart

Verse 10 says that Jesus came to seek and to save the lost. Jesus saw Zacchaeus that day and was touched by his actions of actively seeking Him. It’s the perfect picture of the Seeker meeting the Seeking! Jesus wants us to receive Him with this same kind of joy.

Hand

What are some ways we can seek Jesus in our own lives? Do we spend time praying and reading His Word from the Bible? He will honor all the efforts of seeking after Him. He sees us. He would love for us to open our hearts to Him, acknowledging Him as King of our lives. After meeting Jesus, Zacchaeus’ life was changed. No longer being known as a tax collector and sinner, but as the man that climbed a tree to catch a glimpse of the Savior. Jesus came to his house and changed his life and the life of his entire household forever!

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for allowing us to read and learn from You through the Bible. Help us to seek you more in our daily lives. We pray that we will receive You joyfully into our lives and our households as Zaccheaus did. In Jesus’ name, we pray, Amen.
