Read Matthew 3-4

Head

There is so much we can learn from Matthew 3 and 4, but honestly, the verses that spoke to me the loudest were the ones in which Jesus called His first disciples. You see, I’m a question-asker. Anyone who has been around me for any length of time will tell you this. I ask LOTS of questions. Maybe some of you can relate. So, as I was reading and came to Matthew 4:19-20, I couldn’t help but think to myself, “Wait, these men just left their fishing nets where they were and followed Jesus? They didn’t ask a single question; they just did what He said?” And again, in Matthew 4:22, when James and John immediately left their dad and their boat and followed Jesus. There were no questions asked. There was no hesitation from the men. They simply heard Jesus and obeyed.

Heart

In my studying, I learned that Jesus had already met these four men, so they weren’t following some stranger. There was a relationship that had built trust between Jesus and Peter, Andrew, James and John. Knowing this, it now makes more sense to me why they never questioned Jesus. They knew Him and they trusted Him. Being trustworthy is a character trait of Jesus, just as it should be for His followers. And guess what? That led me to ask myself the question, “Am I trustworthy?”

Hands

Discuss as a family some ways each of you can demonstrate being trustworthy. Make it a point to be dependable, responsible, and honest in your interactions with your family, friends, and classmates as you go about your day. When we are trustworthy, others see us act like Jesus and want to follow Him, too!

Prayer: Heavenly Father, I am so thankful for Jesus! Thank You for giving us the chance to have a relationship with Him. Thank You for being trustworthy. Help us to be more like You. We love You! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
