Key Verse:

“The Lord is my strength and my shield;

my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.

My heart leaps for joy,

and with my song I praise him.” Psalm 28:7

Prompt:

This week’s focus: Pray First

One of the beautiful things about knowing Christ is that we aren’t walking through life alone. We have a God who protects and strengthens us, for which He deserves our continual praise! Give thanks to God today for His sustaining power and the joy we can find in His presence.

Read Psalm 28

Head

The writer sounds upset in the first five verses of Psalm 28. David sounds desperate as he calls out for God to hear his cry and asks Him to repay evildoers. Then, David’s tone shifts in verse 6 to a more positive and grateful one. He praises God and gives thanks. He refers to God as his strength, shield, a fortress of salvation, and a shepherd.

Heart

I just love that we can come to God with anything. He wants to hear from us when we’re angry and desperate. He wants to help us. He wants to be the one to take care of anyone or anything that is harming us. We don’t have to pretend like everything is okay when we talk to him. We can be honest. He protects us, guides us, and loves us. This is why He is called our Good Shepherd. I love knowing I always have His protection and guidance at all times. This is why David was able to go from being upset to praising God in the same Psalm. He knew God would come through for him.

Hands

In your journal or on a piece of paper, write a prayer that tells God how you’re feeling right now. Then write out three ways God has been faithful to you and praise God for it.

Prayer: Dear God, right now I am feeling ___________. You have been a Good Shepherd to me by _________. I praise you and give you thanks. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
