Read Psalms 3-4

Head

David wrote Psalm 3 during a particularly difficult time in his life and he wrote Psalm 4, it seems, at a time the Israelites were going through a hard season, maybe they were Through both of these Psalms David expresses what he is feeling honestly, letting God see what he is struggling with. In Psalm 3 we see David turn to God for protection and comfort. David begins to rest in the truth that God will answer his prayers and act as a shield. In Psalm 4 David comes to God on behalf of his people the Israelites. He pleads with God to “let your face smile on us, Lord.”

Heart

In both Psalms 3 and 4, David writes of sleeping. I don’t know about you, but if I had ten thousand enemies surrounding me, I would have trouble sleeping. When I am worried about something in my life, I don’t feel peaceful. But David says “I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety,” and “In peace I will lie down and sleep for you alone, O Lord, will keep me safe.” This is a pretty powerful example of just how much we can trust God. We can be still and rest and trust that God is working for us!

Hands

Take a moment to write down a scripture from Psalm 3 or 4 that stands out to you and reminds you that God is working for us. Write this scripture on a note card, place it beside your bed, and read it every night as you rest.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for working for Your people. Help me learn to seek You first when I have times of fear or doubt. I want to learn to be still and rest in You, knowing that I don’t have to do anything. You are in charge and working. We love You, God, Amen.
