Read 1 Corinthians 13

We will wrap up our week talking about love reading from 1 Corinthians 13.  This passage of scripture is known as “The Love Chapter”.  Paul teaches us about love and how important it is in our lives.

Head

Paul explains in this chapter that love is greater than anything else.  He says that even if we can speak many languages, understand all the mysteries of the world, or do amazing things if we don’t have love, we are nothing! That’s a pretty big deal.  Paul gives a list of things that describe what love is and also what love is not.  Let’s take a look at a few of them:

  • Love is Patient - It’s no fun waiting! Being patient means being kind and understanding while we wait.
  • Love Is Kind - Kindness adds a special touch to someone’s day.  It makes others feel happy and loved.
  • Love Trusts and Hopes - We believe in each other and always hope for the best.  When we love our friends and family, we trust that they want what’s best for us, too.
  • Love Does Not Envy - This means we shouldn’t be jealous of what someone else has, but we should be happy for them.
  • Love Is Not Proud - We shouldn’t try to be a “show off” or act like we are better than others.  We are all special in our own way.
  • Love Keeps No Record of Wrong - Sometimes others might hurt our feelings.  Love helps us forgive.  It’s like erasing a mistake and starting fresh.
Heart

Love is the greatest gift we can give and receive.  When we show love to others, we are sharing a piece of God’s heart with the world.

Hands

Love is more than just a feeling. It’s something we do.  Let’s make it our mission to spread love wherever we go, just like Jesus did. Think about how you can show others love today.  It may be something as simple as a compliment that brightens someone else’s day.  Any act of kindness is giving the world a little glimpse of Jesus.

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for teaching us what love looks like.  Help us to be patient and kind like You.  Let us show love to our family, friends, and everyone we meet. Help us to remember that love is the most important thing. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
