Read John 14:15-31

Head

In these verses, Jesus promises to send the Holy Spirit to those who believe in Him as He leaves to be with the Father in heaven. He knows the time is coming and wants to prepare the disciples to stay strong and follow as the Spirit leads them. Jesus explains that the Spirit will live in believers, and they will see Him. Those who are not believers will be unable to see or hear because the Spirit is not in them because they don’t have a relationship with Jesus.

Heart

Jesus wants to prepare the disciples to abide (to live) in the Father when He is gone. How would you feel if you were a disciple? Do you think they understood what receiving the Holy Spirit would feel like? Jesus says not to let your hearts be troubled and not to be afraid. This message was written to all believers. You don’t have to be troubled or confused, because Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to always be with you.

Hands

Jesus was giving the disciples practical instructions for what was coming. We can look for ways to share Jesus’ promise of the Holy Spirit to be with us. How can we do this?  You may know someone who has been sick and is confined to home. A visit with some cookies or brownies could brighten their day, and they can see Jesus in you! This is a good time to share how the Holy Spirit helps you.

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for this scripture and the promise Jesus made to send the Holy Spirit to live in us.  We are not troubled or afraid because the Spirit lives in us and brings us closer to You. We love You. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
