21 Days of Prayer

Keys Verse:

“Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?

Who may live on your holy mountain?

The one whose walk is blameless,

who does what is righteous,

who speaks the truth from their heart;” Psalm 15:1-2

Prompt:

This week's focus: Live by Faith

When we read Psalm 15, we are reminded of the righteous, set-apart life the Lord is calling us to. We are also reminded that without the life-changing power of the Holy Spirit, no one can live a life unshaken by sin. Today, praise God for the gift of righteousness that His Son, Jesus, made possible through His death on the cross. Thank God for sending His Holy Spirit to guide us and grow us, and ask Him to help you live a life that honors Him this year.

Read Psalms 14-15

Head

In Psalm 14, God's Word gives us a description of what happens when we don’t make God the focus of our lives – we end up living as fools. Maybe you've heard the word “fool” used to describe someone who isn’t very smart or does silly things. But in the Bible, it’s used to describe someone who makes poor decisions and doesn’t follow God. They cheat and disobey God with their choices. Their actions are wicked and they only think of themselves.

In Psalm 15, David focuses on the opposite of the fool – the righteous. The righteous are those who choose to follow God. Being righteous doesn’t mean that we’re perfect or don’t make mistakes, but it does mean that we seek to follow God with our choices and the way we live. The righteous don’t want to bring harm to their neighbors or talk bad about others. They want to be more like God in every way possible.

Heart

When you hear the word fool what comes to mind? In the Bible, it says a fool is someone who says in their heart that there is no God. A fool is someone who disowns God as their Creator and Lord. The foolish live in a way that disobeys God and His Word, feeling like they have no consequences. However, God knows everything, and He will hold us all accountable for our words and actions. The good news is that when we ask Jesus to be our Savior, we drop the title of a fool, and we become righteous in God's sight!

Hand

So how do we make sure we don’t become fools? We honor our living God. We spend time in God’s Word to learn more about Him and how He wants us to live. We pray for His help constantly, and when things get rough, we stand firm in our faith and trust that God is working all things for our good and His glory!

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for showing us how to live that glorifies You. God so help us to never forget Your promises or forget that You are good. Help us to not live as fools but as Your righteous children. You want us to live a life that produces good fruit. Fruit that nourishes others and doesn’t harm them. Focus our attention on You and protect us from evil. Our trust is in You! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
