21 Days of Prayer
Key Verse:
“Hear my voice when I call, Lord;
be merciful to me and answer me.” Psalm 27:7
Prompt:
This week’s focus: Pray First
What’s your first response when you face challenges or difficulties or even celebrations? Maybe you isolate? Or seek an outlet for your pain? Is it calling out to the Lord? It’s such a comfort to know that no matter our circumstances, God hears our prayers and cares for us. Ask God to help you PRAY FIRST no matter what you encounter this week, knowing that He is a faithful and merciful God who will answer as He sees fit for His plans and purposes.

Read Psalm 27
Head
David had a lot of enemies, people that wanted to kill him. In Psalm 27, he writes about how he has confidence that God will be with him and help him. In fact, he says, “The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?” He goes on to give more specific ways he relies on God’s help, and he praises God. Even though a lot of people don’t like him and want him dead, he says “I am still confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”
Heart
What is something you’re afraid of? Snakes? The dark? Being alone? Not having any friends? Losing a loved one?
Reading Psalm 27 reminds me that I can take my fears to God. I can be honest with him about what I’m afraid of. It also reminds me that God is strong enough and faithful enough to help me with those fears.
Hands
Read through Psalm 27 again. As you read, make a list of characteristics of God and how you can respond to who He is. Draw out a chart similar to this one and fill it out as you read. I’ve listed something in each category to help you get started.
- The Lord is: My light
- Things the Lord does: Defeat my foes
- My response: Offer sacrifices and shouts of praise
Prayer: Dear Lord, You are my light and my salvation. You keep me safe. I give You my fears. There’s no need for me to be afraid because You are with me. I praise You for Your goodness and faithfulness. In Jesus’s name, Amen.
