Scripture

Primary Text: Matthew 7:1-6

Observations & Applications

1. Read Matthew 7:1-6. What stands out to you in Jesus’ teaching about judgment and grace in this passage?

2. Jesus says, “Judge not, that you be not judged” (v.1). What are some common misconceptions about what Jesus means by “judge not”?

3. Jesus calls us to first “take the plank out of your own eye” before addressing the speck in someone else’s eye (v.5). Why is it important to acknowledge our own need for grace before addressing the sins of others?

4. In verse 6, Jesus warns against giving “what is sacred” to dogs or “throwing pearls to swine.” What do you think Jesus means by this, and why is it important to practice discernment in how we share spiritual truths?
