Key Verse

2 Corinthians 8:3-4 – “For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.”

During Paul’s journey, he collected money to give to the believers in Jerusalem who were poor and in need. All the churches in Macedonia gave money to help the people of Jerusalem, even though the Macedonians were poor themselves. They wanted to be a light that pointed others to Jesus. The churches gave more than Paul expected. They were poor themselves but wanted to help others. What a wonderful example of giving their treasure as an act of faith in Jesus! The Macedonian churches made an impact for God’s Kingdom. The Macedonians churches gave because they loved Jesus and wanted others to know Him well. They also loved other believers who were part of their eternal family. These believers felt great joy in helping others and were excited to help in whatever way they could. These churches knew that it was the right and good thing to do. They were truly salt and light in the world. God’s Kingdom spreads through believers who are eager to help those in need. God wants us to help people we know and people we don’t know. When a community, like our church, gives generously, it can ignite (start) a movement of people who want to give too. Our church becomes a light that leads others to learn more about Jesus’ life and mission.

Reflection:

We give because we love Jesus! It can be your allowance, an encouraging note, or the name of someone you want to pray for. Remember we ignite through giving our time, talents, and treasures. When we give, it is an act of faith that Jesus can use to change someone’s life! See how many creative ways you can share with those in need. Let’s follow Jesus’ example of generosity and be a light for all to see!

Prayer:

Dear Lord, You are so Wonderful and Good! Thank You for igniting in our hearts a spark to give to Your Church, to help those in need, and to use our talents for Your Glory. Please help us give with excited and eager hearts, Jesus. Help us to give because we want others to know You well. In the Name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
