Head
Do you have any special memory tricks to help you remember important things? Maybe you use
pictures, colors, or even songs to help your brain remember things. When something is really
important to you, have you ever used visual cues or even recited a story to help keep it in your
mind? When we use all our senses—sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell—it helps us remember
better. In today’s passage from Luke 21-22, Jesus is preparing for something incredibly important—
His death on the cross. But before He is arrested and crucified, He shares a special meal with His
disciples, called the Last Supper. During this meal, He asks them to “do this in remembrance of Me.”
Jesus makes it clear that He wants us to remember that moment so we will never forget the sacrifice
He made for us.
Heart
Even though Jesus was fully God, He was also fully human. This means He felt all the pain that came
with His betrayal and the beating He endured. But everything He went through had a purpose: to
fulfill the sacrifice that would take away the sin of the world. That’s our salvation! The Last Supper
was a way for Jesus to show how much He loves us and wanted us to remember His sacrifice. He
gave His life willingly so we could live forever with Him. Wow! What love! Jesus’ sacrifice is the
greatest love ever shown to us. By incorporating all five senses and different types of learning, Jesus
gave us a way to remember the greatest act of love in history.
Hands
As a teacher, I’ve learned that people process information in different ways. Some people learn
best by touching or doing things (tactile learning), some by seeing (visual learning), and others by
listening (auditory learning). Isn’t it amazing that Jesus used all these types of learning to make
sure we would always remember His sacrifice?! He didn’t just tell the disciples to remember; He
gave them something they could touch, taste, see, and hear, activating all five senses to help them
remember. The bread they ate symbolized His body, which was broken on the cross. The cup they
drank from symbolized His blood, which was shed for the forgiveness of sin. By celebrating the
Lord’s Supper, we join believers everywhere to remember Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.
Prayer
Dear Lord, thank You for the Last Supper and the incredible gift of salvation You gave us through
Your sacrifice. We place our faith in You and thank You for helping us remember what You did on
the cross.
In Your name, we pray, Amen.
