What is Advent?

"A voice of one crying out: Prepare the way of the Lord in the wilderness; make a straight highway for our God in the desert. Every valley will be lifted up, and every mountain and hill will be leveled; the uneven ground will become smooth and the rough places, a plain. And the glory of the Lord will appear, and all humanity together will see it, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken." - Isaiah 3:10-12

The word advent literally means “the arrival.” It is a way to look back and celebrate the Son of God coming to earth to be born as a baby in a manger while we also look forward to His second coming when creation will be redeemed and restored. Advent is traditionally celebrated in the four weeks leading up to Christmas with four themes: hope, joy, love, and peace. Join us as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Savior, Jesus, this Christmas season.

Advent Reading Plan

Slow down and lean in this December with Venture's Advent Bible Reading Plan series! Each week, the scripture, Daily Devos, and Family Devos will focus on a unique theme or promise of Advent. On Wednesdays, through special videos featured in the Daily Devos, we'll pause together and read a portion of the Christmas story as we invite you to experience Advent in your own story. Let's all learn to wait well this holiday season!

All semester long, we've searched the Bible for God's promises, and on December 1, 8, and 15, KXP classes will complete the final search of the year with the Christmas series, "Search for a Savior." Share Your Story recorded three special Christmas episodes to explore the season of Advent – a time of waiting, anticipation, and celebration. Each conversation points toward the promises of Advent - peace, hope, love, and joy - and highlights different ways to honor God through discipleship, worship, and serving others this holiday season.
